Fraudulent USPS Inspector call (Scam call) reported by Sherman
6/5/2025 at 3:36PM I received a telephone call from 202-330-6928 and a woman with a thick accent claimed to be U.S. Postal Inspector Charlie Adams calling from Washington, D.C. USPS Office of Public Affairs. She said that a package marked as a Dyson Vacuum, but actually had "3 handgrips and a gun barrel" had be sent to Harry Thompson 2240 South St, Washington DC 20222 was purchased using my email. I immediately became suspicious and asked for a tracking number or case number. She said there wasn't any number assigned. I asked her who I should contact to file a fraud complaint expecting her not to know the answer. She said she would look it up. I asked for her call back telephone number. She gave me 1-800-275-8777 ext. 301. I checked this telephone number and it is the USPS customer service telephone number and hung up. When I called the toll-free number, it was only the Customer Service number which would not allow me to enter an extension #. A few minutes later, the woman called me back and said that the FBI in New York would have jurisdiction. The U.S. Postal Inspectors are law enforcement officers and would actually have jurisdiction. The ATF may also have jurisdiction.
