Claimed to be Medicare (Scam call) reported by


Called and asked for my stepmother - I told them she died 8 years ago. She said, yes, this is Medicare and I'm calling for {name}. I told them she died and gave her the exact date and time. She hesitated for a second and hung up. Very foreign accent, unable to speak decent English.

Received calls from this and many other numbers from different areas but same voice heard on all the lines. Not always the one talking to me but same lines being used on others in the background. When attempts are made to call back for missed calls I am informed the number does not exist or is in the wrong format and to check the number and try again. If the federal government (like the loan office or anything to do with financial services in the government) needs to contact you then they will send someone to your location. They won't waste the time calling you, they will usually address you in the mail if you can't be reached by other means.

They have called me several times claiming I won a federal grant over $9,000. The fact that I did not fill out the many questions the government requires for grants is one tip off for this to be a scam, another tip off is that it is always a Hindi that is on the other end with a Hindi accent. India is the #1 place where scammers set up shop because they are desperate enough for the money. Just because the caller ID says Washington DC, it’s very possible that it’s a VOIP phone system. Really easy to register a VOIP area code of some city you are not even close to.

They keep trying to get you to say ok or yes that you understand, this is a call, when I asked them I bet you want my account number so that you can wire me the money now don't you they hand up on me because they know I am on to them. The next time they called they kept pressing me to say ok and when I said I'm not going to answer that question they hung up on me again. This is comical. Do they honestly think i'm going to believe them.
