Not calling from Pepco (Scam call) reported by


I received a call and the man asked for me by name and then he said he was from Pepco. He went on to say that I owed a thousand dollars plus. I stopped him and said not only don't I live at that address any longer, I know FOR SURE I paid my final bill. He then told me to call Pepco's billing department at 800-518-5168. I then asked him for the address he was calling about and he gave my old address and then I asked him the apartment number. ThIs is where it got interesting. He asked me to hang on and quickly came back, sounding flustered and gave my current address saying there is a problem and I should call the number he gave. Problem is 1. We don't have Pepco at my new address and 2. The electric bill is NOT in my name. As I stated this, he kept telling me, to call the number he gave me to have them sort it out. I then, of course, Googled the number I was called from and it said it was Pepco's number, but it was also listed at their billing number - a number different from the "billing" number he provided.

Automated message letting me know that our power would be cut off in 30min due to nonpayment. It did not give a number to call back or the option to speak to a real person.

Received call from a lady on 5/24/19 who asked for me, by my name? I responded, by saying "speaking". Don't say yes". She asked 2 more times about my name. Gave her my same response. Said she is with Pepco but name on my phone was Potomac Electric and 2 guys were in route to my address to cut off our service for non-payment of premium. Knowing our payment is not even due til 5/31 and not behind on payment,knew this is a SCAM. She gave me 1-800-396-10xx number, Ext 1 and told to ask for supervisor. This is a SCAM!

I’m not the account holder. Monthly payment is on auto pay. Dude was **** when I didn’t take the number he wanted me to call for payment. Called the number back and appears to be Pepco so they are masking the number. Decent scam

I was informed that my bill was overdue and if I didn't call this 1-800 number and make a payment within 30 minutes, my power would be shut off. Problem is - I am not a PEPCO customer. My cell phone is from a PEPCO service area, however, so this was definitely a robo-call scammer.

Same here...except I was logged into the Pepco portal in the process of paying my bill. They had no visibility on the recent payments I had made.

Same thing but they gave me 3 different addresses and 2 names of account holder. Where they messed up at was one of the addresses and name belonged to my brother. They also messed up telling me they were going to cut my power off in 45 minutes if I didn't pay my past balance at one of the previously mentioned addresses. That people has Pepco but utilities are included in the condo fee. Pepco would never contact an owner or tenant. When I said ok turn it off, he said alright then mother fucker and hung up.

I think it's a scammer spoofing a legit business number, which is unfortunate. 1) I live outside the Pepco service area. 2) The electric I do have is under my home number not my cell.
