heavy pressure sales/extended warranty/auto repairs (Unsolicited call) reported by Shamara
Unsolicited call on weekday afternoon, a friendly-sounding woman asked for me by first name, "just calling to offer me information" about a vehicle manufacturer warranty services replacement program, claiming it would take just a couple minutes to let me know what was available--no obligation to decide today. Sounded okay. I like to be aware of options. I was transferred to a "representative". She asked a few basic questions about my vehicle, then gave me the "great news"... I was eligible for a 4yrs/60k miles, major vehicle system repair coverage policy. Should any repairs become necessary, I need only pay the $100 deductible... In addition to, of course, the total cost of the 4yr plan which would be just $3689, w/ $495 down, conveniently payable via their no interest fee payment plan. I thanked her for the info, explained I wasn't in a position to commit to the extra expense. She went on to explain it would be best to take this special offer now, only available while car is not in need of repair. I again thanked her, acknowledged the limited time offer, and reiterated I would not be paying or committing to pay anything today. She put me "on hold for just a moment to check one more thing". I might have hung up then, but I guess I was curious. A sleazy sounding guy, claiming to be her supervisor, returned to the call, to ratchet up the pressure by warning me what disastrous, costly repair situations can arise, but this offer was only available NOW. I repeated the response I gave to the first representative. This fella,wouldn't tell me the name of his company or their web address. He did offer me a lower down payment, lower monthly payments, along with with further warnings of impending car system failure. So, I finally hung up--and blocked the number. Sharing here, so you don't waste 24 minutes of your time the same way. :)
