They've hit Portland, OR on CraigsList with the same story plus a couple others with a slight variation. I contacted the Realtors and informed them their property was being listed on CraigsList .

Scam call reported by no name
An individual currently advertising a house for rent in West Hartford CT (24 Carlyle St.) uses this number. After inquiring about the property, I recieved an email from kapohomes(a)hotmail.com from the "owner" of the property, in which they claim to be in West Africa on a mission for Service in Mission (legit organization). Because the monthly price to rent the property and other aspects of the advertisement appeared too good to be true, I conducted a little research. In doing so, I found that the house was recently for sale and is now under contract. To address this fact (of which the sender appears to be aware) the email stated that the house was for sale for a period, but is no longer on the market, and follows up with, "...the Realtor raised the price which made it difficult for me to sell before leaving the States so never mind if you see the for sale sign in front of the house, It has already been taken off the market as for sale so there is no need to contact any Realtor." This is what first clued me into the fact that this was a possible scam. Sealing the deal for me, there were other questionable aspects within the email. These are: 1. The price of the rent is easily $500 and potentially $1000 lower than comparable rentals, AND includes all utilities. 2. The language usage, while good, is a little off (e.g,car park instead of garage; states that individual and his wife are in West Africa, and then concludes with a female signature; 3. There was a yard sale at this address today on 6/17/2016 and the individual claimed to have already left the USA in his/her email. 4. The individual wants to know the soonest possible date for payment of deposit and first months rent. 5. There is a request for personal information not normally required during the rental process. 6. The property is in West Hartford, CT, the phone number is from LA, and the individual claims to be in West Africa. 7. The individual wants to arrange an agreement in which he/she remain

I just experienced the very same experience from this number but in Allentown, PA. This guy get around! Unfortunately he uses church and scripture and is gonna find someone who will give them the money they are trying to scam out of people. Very sad!! Work hard like everyone else and earn your own money!!!
