Officer John W and Officer Jennifer H - Legal Affairs (Scam call) reported by Office of Legal Affairs for the U.S. Treasury
Call came in to my cell phone. Voicemail left advising me to return call - that the call was "a serious matter, and that ignoring the call would be considered intentional 2nd attempt to avoid an initial appearance before the magistrate judge or the grand jury or the federal criminal ??? My # I advise you to cooperate with us and to help us help you." I first called from an office landline. The phone was answered "hello" and the individual refused to tell me what kind of business they were unless I would agree to give them my cell phone. I then called back from my cell phone. I was asked if I was returning the call from the same number where I received the message. When I said 'yes', I was asked to hold while they 'pulled up my record'. I called twice - I was advised that I was speaking with (1) officer John W and (2) Officer Jennifer H - from the Office of Legal Affairs for the US Treasury Department. Both individuals have very heavy eastern Indian accents. Believing that this was a scam, when I heard "John W" I chuckled. 'Officer W' got angry, asked if he had told a joke and hung up on me disconnecting the call. When I called back I was speaking with 'officer Jennifer H'...when I asked if she would spell her name, she asked if I was taking notes. I responded that I was taking notes, and she ended the call. Any attempts to call again were met with voicemail advising that the number is not available. This is clearly a scam!!!! Please be warned and do not give any pertinent or confidential information. I am reporting this number to the FTC as well.
