Called to confirm that I had placed order for my $1000 laptop as I recently moved and had a new address so the order was flagged. I was very skeptical at first but then I looked up the number and found this page and some other info. I confirmed my old address and the order was released.

Office Depot Loss Prevention (Company) reported by


Someone called from Office Depot's loss prevention to alert me that my credit card had been used to purchase toner in Houston, TX, and that it looked suspicious. At first it sounded like a scam, but he didn't ask for any personal information, he only confirmed information he already had, including the amount of the transaction and the last four of my card number. It would have taken me days to notice the fraudulent transaction, by which time the thieves would have racked up thousands in my name, but thanks to this call I was able to immediately cancel my credit card. Of course I called my credit card company directly right away to alert them of the fraud and cancel it. While I think the protocol was a bit strange (typically merchants notify credit card companies of fraud who then reach out to card holders to confirm or deny the transaction), I can't see how instigating someone to cancel their credit card could be a scam. Someone clearly had my credit card number and was using it- I believe from an online breach- and someone at this number alerted me before the thieves could get away with stealing a laptop or other high-ticket item. I searched this number looking for a way to thank the caller, because I was grateful to be alerted of the transaction before my monitoring service had a chance to kick in.

I placed an online order at Office Depot and my daughter was going to pick it up in a different state. Mitch called to verify since the billing name and pickup name were different and it involved two different states. Not a scam at all. It would be nice if more companies did this type of verification.

Citi Bank (Scam call) reported by


Identified himself as ‘Mitch’ from Office Depot Loss Prevention, knew my home address, knew the last four digits of the card, said that someone had tried to use it to buy a laptop but that they (Office Depot) stopped the transaction because it didn’t seem right; the computer was to have been shipped to my name at a different address. Call was received by my daughter, she called OD customer service, who said that they wouldn’t track that and wouldn’t be alerting customers about that. Then I called Citibank, and they confirmed that someone had attempted to purchase a laptop at OD today for $529. They cancelled my card and are shipping me a new one.

Office Depot Loss Prevention SCAM (Scam call) reported by


Within seconds of clicking "SUBMIT" on the Office Depot/Office Max website, I received a call from "Mitch" claiming to be from Office Depot Loss Prevention. He was calling to verify that I really placed the order. He confirmed my business name because "it sounded 'weird'" then asked if I had a virtual private network. When I said, "No, why?" the call disconnected and he called right back, apologizing for "accidentally" hanging up. I asked why he asked if I had a VPN and he said he asked if I had a Virtual Private Network because of scams. I thought the comments about my business name (unbirthdaygifts.com - NOT "weird") and his lack of knowledge that VPN is a commonly used acronym for Virtual Private Network, was sketchy so, when the call ended I went to my laptop to Google his number and found that my NIC card had been disabled. I immediately cancelled my credit cards then called "Mitch" back stating, "I know what you did and I cancelled my cards." He argued with me and offered to give me his bosses phone number (as if my calling a number provided by him would prove anything). If you received a call after placing an order online, cancel your cards and reset your router....

Called & left vm to say that someone had placed an online order with a card in my name, but a different named person was trying to pick it up. Thing is, they called my husband's cell phone number which I found very odd. My bank had already telephoned me earlier today to ask about potential fraudulent charges, and this was one of the ones they inquired about. Am not calling the number back - seems to be an elaborate scam going on. Do not give them your information.

Someone called stating they were from Office Depot reporting fraudulent charges in my name, they gave me another number to call at Citibank: ****(877) 406-5657‬, that number asked for my social. I google searched both numbers and they seem to have similar stories of people experiencing the same thing. Elaborate scam. Do not give them any information!!!
