The person calling started asking me for my social security number. I told them I don't give out numbers to anyone that calls me. I hung up and called the number on the back of my card. Capital One said the call was a scam and I did the right thing by not giving them information. They said the number is not for the Capital One Fraud Department.

I wouldn’t dismiss this. I got the same call. I found out there was indeed a card opened. Capitol one had it on hold. It even shows on my hard inquiry. I never had to give them my social.

Received a call. Could barely understand the person on the line as their accent was extremely strong. It was clear they were reading from a script and didn't understand my questions or responses. They said I was selected by Experion to receive a lower interest rate and proceeded to ask me questions about my accounts which I did not want to answer. They hung up. I called back immediately and spoke with a real capital one representative and they agreed that it sounded like the number had been spoofed and it was a phishing call.

Someone left a message indicating they were with Capital One fraud department and calling about my application. I googled the phone number and it did show that this is a legitimate number for Capital One’s fraud department. However, I called it and since I work in a call center, I am familiar with what can happen when scammers are involved. While on hold to be transferred to a supposed Capital One agent, there were extra clicks. Some scammer is intercepting their phone system. Once I got an agent online, she asked what I was calling about and I explained to her the message I had received and that I never applied for credit with them and don’t have a card through them at all. She then asked for my name which they already had anyway and said she could not locate an application on file for me. She then wanted my Social Security number and I told her absolutely not. She said that was the only way she could find me in their system, and I told her I wasn’t giving it to her. She then said she would like to get a few other pieces of information from me though in order to try and pull me up in their system. I told her I wasn’t interested in continuing the call because I knew that this was a fraudulent situation and hung up.

This is not how to contact a client. This is a sophisticated phishing scam. They hv more secure ways of contacting other than an 800 number. Criminals has access to 800 numbers! Beware!!! On top, they left no VM.

Capital one restricted my account, due to them believing there was fraud. Only way to lift the restriction was sending them a copy of my DL. I was told it would take 7-10 business days to lift restriction. Received a call from this number 4 business days later to finally verify the suspicious charges and my account info and my acct restriction was immediately lifted after the call. The caller did not ask for my social or full credit card number. Not a scam, just Capital one being over the top about security and exporting their customer service overseas.

Called back. Not fully convinced it was actually Cap1 Fraud Dept. Refused to give anything other than case number left on my voice mail. CSR said the acct is closed, and gave numbers for the three credit reporting agencies to call to annotate acct.

I got letter from capital one fraud department, tell me to call 18002397054. The person talked to me and insisted to ask my social security numbers and phone number, I gave her case number, but she said case numbers wasn’t useful, she tried to help me. Then I realized she was a fraud, the bad guy.

Letter of Fraud CC issuance (Financial services) reported by


A letter was sent to me asking me to verify some information about a card I had applied for. I had not applied so I called the "Fraud Dept" number listed 1-800-239-7054. They asked for SS# and before I would give them this number I looked up the phone number. It is not listed under Capital One Fraud Dept. as verified numbers. As soon as I said this the rep hung up! SCAM!
