"alarm monitoring service" (Telemarketer) reported by neighbor
The person who called was not able to explain that a neighbor had given our phone number to an alarm-monitoring company and that the alarm had gone out. That company needs to have a clear recording explaining who they are and why they call because otherwise you end up wondering if it is a phishing scam. Note that it does not help at all that the caller is 2500 miles from your home and has no idea of anything (who are you, what is the name of the person who lives in the house with the alarm, etc). At the end, we went to the front yard, we talked to the police officer, and he cleared the confusion (but had no clue about the "service" provided by this company or how did they get our phone number)

It is not up to the company to inform you that you are on their list, it was your neighbor's job. Because they don't know who they are talking to, for safety reasons, they will only give you basic information until you can verify everything is ok.
