They ask you for your zip code, then text you codes to read back to them so you can be upgraded from 4g to 5g. I called Verizon after and they told me that the person had changed my mailing address and ordered an iphone.

Caller said my account was suspended because they were switching from 4G to 5G. They had to update my phone or it might not work. Send a passcode on the text that was identical to a Verizon text. I gave the caller the passcode. He never came back on the line. Seconds later I got an alert text from Verizon that my password had just been changed. Somehow they accessed my account. Shut down the Verizon account, changed Apple ID password and am now changing passwords. Also checked credit card for purchases. Nothing yet. So frustrating. I know better.
