Real IRS call center number - but can be used by scammers (Call centre) reported by


We got a call from the IRS and our caller ID said it was from 816-448-2116. This is an actual call center that the IRS uses in Kansas City. However, scammers can use this number to fool you by displaying this real number on caller ID even though they are calling from a different number. The caller left their name and badge number. They said they would call back. They did not leave a return phone number. When I called this call center number from our caller ID I got a message saying that you can call back the representative at the return phone number they left (if they left one). Otherwise they will make other attempts to call you. Scammers can take advantage of this by not leaving a specific return call number and then calling you until they reach you. So, even though this is a legit IRS call center number (used to mask the agents direct line), scammers can use it to scam you by displaying it on your caller ID so when you research it and see it is a real IRS number you trust the scammer when they call you. I won't know for sure until they call me back if it is legit or a scam. Good Luck.

claims to be IRS, I called back & there was no way to speak to anyone, just circular bs & says they will call again. but every time they do, they hang up before I can answer without leaving a message or call-back number.

The message left was for, which I have called Tax advocate for my tax refund. When they called back, the phone call seemed extremely long distance, they never said their name or which office they were from, no identifying words, no nothing. They never even left a call back number.

This number has called 7-8 times within a 5-hour span. Always shows this number. Only rings once, but we have applied a filter app at Verizon that only allows robo calls to ring once. The name with the number is Apple, Inc. each time.
