got call from this number saying it was the Department of Veteran Affairs. It was a doctor asking people to call in with problems of vets getting benefits and they would be referred to specialist who would help them

These calls are from the American Family Association, and to my knowledge they only call those who support their ministry. If you are getting these calls by mistake, you should answer and ask that they remove your number and I'm sure they would be willing to do so.
