3rd party debt collector that will call to the point of harassment. Never admit debt to a debt collector. You did not do business with them and do not owe them. And especially never admit to any debt that is no longer on your credit report, do not say anything that even hints to admitting the debt is yours. Just by acknowledging you are the person they are looking for, allows them to put the debt on your report. Do your research before talking to these people.

Portfolio debt collection. Tried to re-activate a debt that was too old to report to credit bureaus or sue for in court. Never admit a debt is yours when you get calls like this or you may re-activate a debt that can no longer be reported. It's a trick companies like this use, by acknowledging the debt you reset the clock to the current date. By law any debt can be collected no matter how old, but if it's older than 7 years there is absolutely nothing negative a collector can do to you as long as you do not admit the debt is yours. They cannot report it and cannot take you to court. Best policy is to just ignore the call or letter you receive.

Credit reporting and the legal statute for collecting a debt are two separate and distinct things. A debt can only be legally REPORTED to a credit bureau if it is within 7 years from the date that it first became delinquent - there are a few states that limit this time even more. In contrast, a debt can only be COLLECTED through a lawsuit if it is within the statute of limitations (and those vary from state to state). IF you admit to a debt, make a payment or agree to a payment arrangement, the clock CAN be reset FOR THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS only. These actions do not extend the time a debt can be legally reported to a credit bureau. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE! However, you CAN pay a debt that is yours AT ANY TIME, regardless of the above.

They called my cell phone eights within minutes of each other. Then today they called again. I found out more information that they are accounts receivable and collection law firm.

Wouldn't give any information. Asked for me by name. Would only say it's in reference to a personal businesses matter. Would not give any additional info unless I confirmed my identity. Hung up on them. I don't have the time or energy for cryptic child games.
