Called concerning a debt from 2018. The guy I talked to seemed like a decent guy, but I do not like getting calls from debt collectors while I'm at work. Unfortunately I have to answer all unknown numbers because of work.

The message was silent, then someone burped onto my answering mac (Call centre) reported by


I rarely answer 866 calls so I let this one go to voicemail. It was a 30 second message. I checked it and there was no talking but I could hear someone breathing. Then I heard someone belch or pass gas. Then they hung up. It was so weird.

Most applicable is that such agencies are required to send "a notice summarizing debt within 5 days of opening communication," so if you get a call from them and don't receive a notice from them soon after, there's something wrong, and it might be best to hire a consumer attorney if they keep trying to contact you.

This is so not true. They keep calling for someone else. Not me or anyone in my family. Collections agencies like this buy debt that has been discharged by the statute of limitations and try to get you to pay as well. And they harass people who have a previous debtors number.

I've had this number for over 5 years. They claimed that they talked to the person last week with my number. They straight up lie and threaten to report you to the police when you don't even know the person they are looking for. I'm 7 months pregnant and this is so uncalled for.
