Phishing attempt (Scam call) reported by Ted Anderson
This number is not associated with Charles Schwab Fraud Services. It is a phishing attempt to get your bank for Charles Schwab. DO NOT CALL this number back!

Charles Schwab, I disregarded this call and called the number on the back of my debit card, but this call was legitimately from Charles Schwab about suspected fraud on the account. I've added it to safe now that I know.

Fraud - Confirmed with Schwab (Scam call) reported by Cali
Received a text message and voicemail from this number claiming there was fraudulent activity on my account. Checked my account and saw there was indeed a pending $0 charge for Spearfishing this morning. Called the fraud department number listed on my actual card, and verified on the Schwab website. They verified that the phone number was NOT affiliated with them, but WAS legitimately trying to defraud my account by submitting multiple charges to the account. There were 4 fraudulent charges that Schwab had already blocked and reversed. One was from Washington, one from Florida and one from London. The fraud department explained to me that this is how these scammers work. They DO try to defraud your account by submitting false charges to the account. Then when you see them on your account you're willing to 'verify' your account info over the phone with them which is how they ACTUALLY get full access to your account and subsequently take your money. So if you are called or texted from this number you SHOULD call Schwab Fraud, but do not call the number that is calling or texting you. Call the number on your card. Have them shut down your existing debit cards and send you new ones.

Called Schwab number on my debit card - this is a scam (Scam call) reported by Tom C
Right after activating my new debit card from Schwab by calling the number on the sticker, I got a call from an Unknown number and left me a message saying this is "Schwab bank fraud prevention services" and need to "verify recent transactions on your Visa debit card ending in xxxx in order to prevent possible difficulties using your card". It went on saying "it is important that you call us back at your earliest convenience toll-free at 888-277-6280" with a case number xxxxxxxx. I called Schwab customer service number from my contact list instead. They were not aware of any suspicious activities on my account nor have any record of reaching out to me from any of their departments. This looks like a scam. I suspect the service Schwab used for VISA debit card activation has be compromised.

Scam call (Scam call) reported by Katie
Received a call from this number today claiming to be Charles Schwab fraud prevention. They left a message with my full name and the last 4 digits of my debit card and gave me a case reference number. When I called the Charles Schwab number on the back of my card, they confirmed that there was a fraudulent transaction attempt in London (thousands of miles away from where I live) that was flagged as suspicious. The rep I spoke with said the number they called from was in fact a Schwab number, though, but it's possible they spoofed it to appear legit. If you get a call from this number, DO NOT ANSWER or provide any personal information––just call the legit Charles Schwab number on the back of your card.

I comfirmed with schwab, this number is not in schwab database. (Scam call) reported by Benjamin
I confirmed with Schwab, this number is not in Schwab database. It is fraud. People from this number did not know my previous conversation with Schwab 1 days ago. LOL Never trust this number. Always call the official published number back rather than this kind of scammer number. Now all phone ID can be makeup by VOIP software to do fraud. Never trust caller ID.

Unknown (Company) reported by c
I got a voicemail and text from this number with my full name and last four digits of my card stating there was suspicious activity. I logged into my account and chatted with a representative who confirmed this number was correct and belonged to Schwab and that I should call them. I, instead, called the number on the back of my card and asked about any suspicious activity, and they said there was nothing at all. I'm still unsure if this is a phishing scam or not as it seems to be quite inconsistent internally.

Fraud Alert Text Msg (Financial services) reported by Tom M.
Received a text message last night (11/20/21) from "FreeMsg Schwab:" stating that there was unusual activity on my Schwab Visa debit card ending in xxxx. Asked to reply YES (to authorize) or NO (to block) or call 888-277-6280. Msg said that there was a small charge to Amazon in Mexico...but I live in Florida! So I called the Schwab banking phone number on my account and the CS agent transferred me to the Schwab Fraud Protection department. That CS agent verified the text msg phone number was valid and that in fact there were a couple of attempted transactions on my card which has never been used. But Schwab blocked them automatically. The compromised card was cancelled and a new one will be sent to me.

Visa Fraud Protection c/o Charles Schwab (Financial services) reported by Jaycee
Got called once this morning, didn't answer. There was an automated voicemail about suspicious charges to my Charles Schwab debit card. Called Charles Schwab and they went over the charges with me, locked my card, and got a replacement in the works. Later in the afternoon, I received two more calls from 888-277-6280 and I answered it. A lady said she was with Visa Fraud Protection on behalf of Charles Schwab. She asked me to confirm the charges, my birth date and zip code. I did. Then, thought it was suspicious that she called when the card should have been cancelled so I immediately called Charles Schwab and they CONFIRMED this number is legit! I have no clue why people are saying it's not but better safe than sorry and call the number on the back of your card if you have any doubts.

Schwab confirmed as SPAM (Scam call) reported by Customer
Always call the number on the back of you card. Do NOT call back the number that is left on your voicemail. ALL of these folks on here saying it's legit are not being honest.

this page is full of scamers posting lies (Robocall) reported by jarod kennedy
I talked to schwab myself, they confirmed this is a scam number. All the posters on this page who are confirming it are scammers as well. This is evident by their poor english and very short posts.

I called the phone number on the back of my Charles Schwab debit card and asked for the Fraud Protection department, asked them if this number was legit, and they said it was. 888-277-6280 is legit for Visa Fraud Protection courtesy of Charles Schwab. The Schwab agent did tell me that they are operating on two different systems that don't always talk to each other immediately. I asked about this because the Visa number ending in -6280 called me 3 times about the same 3 .03 cent transactions.

Scam (Scam call) reported by 45.49.123.xxx
Got a text asking to verify a suspected fraudulent charge. Went online to check and there was no such charge. Didn’t answer the follow up call. It’s a scam to get your personal info and people I know have fallen for it.

Bank Fraud Services (Financial services) reported by Mitch
I got a text from Schwab’s fraud services and then a call and voicemail from this number. I called back and attempted to cancel my card, they asked for my zip and last 4 digits of my SS, and gave me a different number to call to get a new card. Afterwards I read these reviews and grew suspicious and decided I thought it was phishing and so I called 8004354000 to cancel my card. They confirmed with me that this IS a legitimate fraud service and not phishing. Thus, I’d say it’s safe, although I would recommend just calling your bank back yourself. I think it’s connected to other banks, hence why some reviews say chase and American Express. Further, they were not as helpful as they could have been. They only froze my card when I asked for it to be cancelled, they authorized the fraudulent activity when I told them not to, and they told me that I couldn’t get a new card ordered either from them or on a Sunday. When I went through Schwab themself, they were able to help me more effectively and immediately get a new card ordered. So yes, it’s a legit number, but I would recommend calling your bank back itself. The number that I called for Schwab was the one I listed earlier.
