This person texted me regarding a bed I have posted on CL. Said they will send cashier's check that will include mover's payment. Sighhhhh... So sick of these scammers. For anyone who doesn't know this scam, they will have you send money ("to pay the movers") by a legitimate manner to them. Then the cashier's check will come back as fraudulent and you will be out the money you sent them. Do not fall for this! I use to work at a financial institution. So sad that people fall for this.

This person sends text messages to sellers on Craigslist with the usual excuses as to why he can't pick it up, offering to send a cashier's check with extra funds to pay the person picking it up.

Craigs List Pay with Cashier's Check (SMS) reported by


SCAM - they use checks they print with stolen accounts numbers. You cash the check, your bank doesn't look into validity of the check you are presenting at the time you cash it. You get hit with a reversal of the $$ they gave you plus fees. I only realized this as I posted an ad on Craigs List and immediately got 3-4 texts that were similar in request. Example: Hello! how are you doing? I checked your ad and i am so interested in it. Feel free to text or call me (David) on 4243070042 if it's still available. My payment mode will be via mailing a cashiers check and I will wait till it clears your bank before the pick up. Please note this and contact me if that's okay by you. Hoping to read your text asap. Thanks! Don't even reply - delete and move on.

Buying with Cashiers check (SMS) reported by


They texted that they wanted to buy with a Cashiers check. Said they were out of town doing a hip replacement surgery and cannot come and get it. Would send me check and once it's cleared will send someone to pick it up. I think they wanted to send extra for a movers fee for me to give to movers. Said they could only pay with cashier check. I said they could wire money through Walmart and they said no they can only do check. I'm not sure why they were having hip replacement out of town and buying a car bed. I said I was willing to hold it for them when they're back in town. Not good enough. Sellers beware.

Same - they text me to buy my bed set on Craig's List with a cashier's check. Also got basically the same request from a few other out of area numbers - BEWARE - I have read they offer to wait for check to clear to make you believe it is legit. Instead, they simply print CERTIFIED BANK CHECK on check paper, use stolen bank account numbers, and when you go to cash your bank is not checking on the spot that the check is valid. they simply give you the $$$ but days later charge back to you along with bounce fees. BUYER BEWARE. So grateful for the internet putting this info out there for potential victims.
