"US Border Patrol" Impersonator (Scam call) reported by


The person called from "US Border Patrol" asking for my name. When I asked why, they said a package was received from Mexico with my phone number. I gave them a fake name, they paused for a second, and then hung up. Number no longer works.

Caller wanted me to verify my birthday, but I told her I wouldn't until I knew what the call was concerning. Stated she was calling from some company called Avante (which I've never heard of), so I told her I wasn't verifying any information until I knew the reason behind the call. She still insisted that I needed to verify my information before she would tell me anything. So, because of all of the scammers out there now, I ended the call.

Called with wrong info asked 21 questions after I told them they had wrong person, rude wouldn't tell who they were and hung up when asked

I wouldnt talk to them because she said she had to make sur who she was talking to. I told her she would tell me what this was about several times after that she said if i wasn't going to make sure she was talking to the right person she was going to hang up a she did.

Some kind of business dealing would not admit to debt collection. (Unsolicited call) reported by


She named a business. I couldnt make out the name with her Texas drawl. But when I asked what the reason was for her call (which was initially a robocall) was she would not explain unless I confirmed my birthdate. I asked is this a debt collection? She responded "I cant discuss that. She had earlier, stated that if i was uncomfortable, that she could end the call. So after her refusal to explain the reason for the call, I asked to please end the call, which she did immediately.

This is exactly what they did to me. They call everyday and the guy refused to tell me what the call was concerning before I verified my date of birth or address. He had an attitude about it also. I said I wasn't verifying anything until he told me what the call was concerning then he hung up. And sometimes the calls are robocalls. I don't know if it is normal for legitimate collectors to require verification before they will say what they are calling for but with all the scams going on, I don't see how they this process gets them anywhere.
