script based on wat i recall : caller: u r preapproved for credit offer. do u want to knw more? me: yes, lets c. caller: i will be asking few questions. me: I refuse to answer. caller: If nt comfortable. i can give u my name and my agent ID. (it was some indian name and his ID starts with VA) caller: i cn try asking u question, if not comfortable. let me know. me: okay (still feeling suspicious). caller: birth year and month? me: NO! caller: Middle Initial and Postal code Me: I answered A, V5K 0A1 (just by Postal code and my initial nothing can b done) then he offered me Credit card. when i said yes to it, caller: b4 proceeding i need to make sure ur profile is upto date! this made me more suspicious, i said NO! caller: if nt, v can set up card. card comes 2 ur nearest branch. I agreed and he helped me set up an American express card. there was no more personal questions except Mother's maiden name. but he advised me to give any random name which i will recall while activating. after the call done. i immediately called Scotia and gave the agent ID and name. It found out to be a genuine call.

This was posted on callcentre.com by a Scotia employee about this very number: I work for Scotiabank, kindly do not give away any information, they can use the info as answers to authentication ques when they call at the contact centre. This is a scam ph no.

The guy told that he's from Scotia Bank and they have a special offer for me. After agreeing to listen to that special offer he requested my personal information for verification.

The reason they ask those non-banking questions is to make sure its the right party. Imagine your purse and phone got stolen, the info shared by them will be recieved by the thief, not you. And we can always say NO.

I confirmed with Scotia. They would be asking 2-4 non banking questions like name of the employer, middle initial, postal code and month and year of birth. But never proceed, if they ask your security number etc.

Someone calls to your personal phone number won't need to verify your personal information again. Only stupid person will share them a personal details when telemarketer asking to verify it's you. 100% SCAM. Do not give anybody your personal information in anyway.

The lady could barely speak English. I just listened to her babbling and hung up. I googled the number and it turned out a negative rating. I blocked it but I know they will call again with a different number.

somebody from the "Scotia Bank" called me back in the spring and asked me about my birthday to "verify" my account and I like an *told her, but now they've started calling me again, probably want to know the city I was born in, and then they can steal my identity

This number has been verified on Scotiabanks' Facebook site as a legitimate number. The problem I have is that they are apparently asking people for personal details to verify accounts, etc... something which Scotiabank says it will never do. No - you should not give out personal info over the phone unless you call them. If everyone knows this - what are they hoping to gain by breaking their own rules of security? I blocked the number. If I need info or services, I know where they are.

Today on Saturday I also received call from this no from some one name Mr Gaurav asking my personal details Scotiabank account no. etc when I denied to give, he request to contact any branch of Scotia Bank ... Seems it's a scam no.

I just got a call from this number and they almost got me they were saying i got a credit limit increase which is funny because i actually got a limit increase a month ago. Anyways i say ok, and then they say ima just need your information then i got spooked and said nevermind and hung up lol

Where in their Facebook page do they verify this number? I called Scotiabank customer service and they said that this number is not affiliated with them.
