The man claimed to be calling from my bank's fraud department, but this phone number doesn't match with either of the phone numbers for my bank's fraud department. Because we were just socially engineered, I'm extremely wary that this was probably a scam.

It’s a 3rd party credit union fraud prevention. Called yesterday and I didn’t answer, so they left a message. They called again today, and left message. I called them back at the # they left. It was my credit union’s customer assistance line. Spoke to a lady, and verified some purchases that I had made. My account was flagged due to an online purchase from Hong Kong. After making sure that it was myself buying items, she removed the block that was put on my credit card. Legit

You, sir, are the "kook". Pretty much all Credit Unions outsource their credit card program to a third party vendor. This vendor handles the program entirely, including issuing the cards, processing transactions, online systems for account access, and also the fraud prevention. If they are calling you, it's almost certainly due to possible fraud on your account, or similar problem. How do I know? I audit CUs for a living, including IT Security.

I was contacted by this number yesterday. They claimed they were calling from fraud protection from my local credit union. I refused to give them my account information and asked for a number to call them back. They gave me the number of my actual credit union, so I called them. They proceeded to tell me that they did NOT make any calls to me and there is so reason for anyone to call me about fraud on my card right now. Do NOT give these people your information! Just call your local bank and deal with them.
