Scam Call (Scam call) reported by Jack Hoff
This service is run by prostitutes. The type of trap they used is called a honey pot. Old trick the CCP have used for years. Never answer. Never call back. And most of all block them if possible.

This is a scam (Scam call) reported by Jim Bob
They have info on you and are trying to verify it, they give you this (USA) number to ask you to call them if you give them push back they will get VERY unprofessional. I did an old man act and the woman started telling me I was in the wrong for being concerned about my security and "I should be worried about what's going to happen if she calls again", LOL the people saying this is real are probably handing over tones of info to them. If they have your survey info you did online you probably have malware on your pc.

Telemarketer reported by SIA User
I don't care if this is StatsCan, these people are relentless, they call me twice a day and text and email me constantly about this voluntary survey (not the census) despite me asking them to stop. I blocked their number and they just call me from different numbers. This survey is not mandatory and they shouldn't be allowed to act like debt collectors.

Scammers Spoofing Statistics Canada Number. (Scam call) reported by Your Name
These calls are mainly Scammers spoofing a Statistics Canada phone number (**** the call display number with a computer). These calls are not mandatory to answer as Statistics Canada Mails out mandatory response surveys like the census. Scammers are just trying to steal personal info for Identity Theft. NEVER EVER answer questions from these people. Tell them to mail to the address instead. Do not identify yourself in any way to them or tell them if they have the correct number for the address or person.

Scammers pretending to be Statistics Canada (Scam call) reported by Your Name
This lady has called numerous time pretending to be Statistics Canada. I called Statistics Canada and there are NO inquirys to my name, phone number or any of my addresses. Scum scammers are Spoofing (using a computer to fake the caller ID) Statistics Canada's phone number. Do NOT call anyone but the number you find by going to Statistics Canada Website. Look it up online, you shouldn't trust a number from an online forum so I wont leave one. Do NOT call any call back number left in a voicemail message. These scammers are very good at what they do, don't believe a word they say. Call Statistics Canada if you are unsure and they will direct you where to call if you have mandatory information to disclose. Never EVER believe an incoming call.

The voicemail left was so severely garbled at such low volume I could understand none of it. I am therefore assuming it is not a legitimate caller.

CVK
Statistics Canada calling. It is legit and it is mandatory.
The Census Under Coverage Survey. Link https://www.statcan.gc.ca/en/survey/household/3902
Survey participation: Mandatory under the Statistics Act -
https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/S-19/FullText.html
Also check out StatCan website to see why this survey is important.
Max
Just a response to CVK's point of the mandatory nature of the survey. 99% of the surveys aren't mandatory unless they were approved by the Chief Statistician which, by the way, is never the person who calls. Any mandatory surveys have to be publish publicly on the list here: https://www.statcan.gc.ca/en/about/accountability/surveys
It's kinda of a pain because the list is not in release order. There are 2 things to remember about mandatory surveys: 1 is that it's only mandatory to answer the questions if you're answering the phone call. If the phone number is blocked because there was multiple attempt without any message left explaining which mandatory survey is concerned, you're in no obligation to answer the survey. 2) If you don't answer and they statcan agent leave a message, this person has to leave her name, agent number, phone number to call back AND give the reference toward which mandatory survey this is about. If ANY of those information is missing from the message left by the agent, then you're in no obligation to call back.
For example, I just got a call on a blocked number which left a message (they never left any message before) where the lady tell she's working for statcan and to call her back at a number. She gave her name, but no agent number nor what it's about (no survey identification). This isn't a mandatory survey because she didn't comply with the requirement for information and I don't have to call her back. (But if I do call her back, then it because mandatory to finish it because I complied to answer the survey.)

Said she was from Statscan (Unsolicited call) reported by Johan
A lady called from "Statscan" and asked if my phone number was connected to a certain address. I replied "no" because it was not my address. She replied; "thank you" and said that she would remove that address from the phone number in question.

Public Health Ontario (Non-profit Organization) reported by Gary
Public Health Ontario working for StatsCanada. While the number does seem legit, It does raise some concerns such as: 1. They call repeatedly in a short duration of time. 2. Caller seemed very unsure of themselves in how to answer questions posed to them. 3. Callback number gives a live person right away, while StatsCanada website number puts you on hold and then to voicemail My advice? Tell them you don't have a computer and have them mail the information to you if you are still interested in answering their queries.
2
Statcan caller
Yes, Public Health Ontario is using callers in Statistics Canada to do contact tracing - phoning people who are close contacts of acovid-19 case. 1. Callers are supposed to wait at least an hour before trying to call you back (some callers call back too soon). 2. Many new callers have been hired to handle the growing number of cases in Ontario - newly trained people don't have all the answers they should. 3.This number is answered by people who are doing the various surveys. There are two other 800 numbers to reach Statistics Canada and you might end up with voicemail. You'll find this number on the statcan.gc.ca website.
Of course, the number HAS been spoofed at times, unfortunately. You can always call another statcan # like 1-877-949-9492 to see if the call was legit.

Illegal or not... mandatory or not. I still won't give any personal info. Bad enough that the government is trying to control our actions and yet jack up the prices on everything. No wonder ppl are living on the street
Vexed
Absolutely not mandatory unless it is the census, which must be completed. You can ignore other calls.
concerned
We looked at their questions https://www.statcan.gc.ca/en/statistical-programs/instrument/3701_Q1_V7 and refuse answer any of them . . . block the calls, toss the envelopes, check the doorbell cameras . . .
You wish
It is NOT illegal to ignore these calls. It is HARASSMENT if you continue to call 12 times a damn day!
Common Sense
It’s not illegal to ignore these calls you ****.
Quit making up ******.
Max
It's only mandatory if the survey is listed here: https://www.statcan.gc.ca/en/about/accountability/surveys and the agent gives the reference number for the survey. If a message is left by the agent because the number is blocked due to numerous factors, then they HAVE to leave their full name, agent number, number to call back AND the reference to the mandatory survey as, otherwise, it's not mandatory to call back. (But if you do call back, mandatory or not, you are in an obligation to answer the survey because you initiated the call.)
No name
What Max is saying is absolutely false. They do not leave any information on v/m unless they can confirm that they're calling the right person. If you don't answer the phone and don't let them know, they'll keep calling you. Also Statistics Canada is doing a service for Canadians. You are doing all Canadians a disservice if you refuse to answer the surveys. They're just trying to collect accurate information. How else do we know what average salary is across Canada? What portion of the population are too poor to get dental care? Don't be stupid and shoot yourself in the foot by impeding the scientific process by ignoring your civic duty.
survey
And be sure to wave your sanctimonious civic duty flag.
StanCan agent
Max what you are trying to tell people is false and stupid. Are you even been worked for StatCan? It's easy to answer no. Statcan work for the federal government and there are many mandatory surveys they do. Agent has just to give his name, leave the phone number to call back (1 833-977-8287), the survey reference number and no more. Stop talking about what you have any knowledge.

First of all when I retrieved my phone message I could hardly hear him, He had a very thick foreign accent. Did hear him say Stat Canada. Left me another number to call back It took me listening to the message 10 times to finally understand him partially. This made me very nervous so I won't call the number back !!

Stats Canada (Survey) reported by No
When I received my Census there was additional letter with it saying I was randomly selected from Stats Canada for further surveying. I sort of forgot about it but they called today. The number is listed on Stats Canada as the survey phone number. It was a very long and boring survey about how I felt during the pandemic.

Marko
This happened to me exactly. They send me a letter on Stats Canada letterhead 10 days ago and informed me that I would be called for an interview. Today, on Saturday, September 18, someone drove to me place and left an open envelope with another letter inside supposedly from Stats Canada as it was on their letterhead. The second letter asks for me to call them between Sunday and Tuesday if I have not "completed" the survey. It is a different person who signed the second letter. This is a scam 100%. Never give any personal information. Do not be fooled by the number as this is 100% spoofing.

1-833-977-8287 is a correct number for statistic Canada. If in doubt ask them for there name and badge numbers. They will provide you a number that can be found at the statistic Canada website to call and also on the statistic Canada website you can verify which survey there calling about and. Get more information, or you can do it online depending. I verified with the person that called me. And set up a time for the SAME women to call me back. After I verified

Stats Canada (but shady) (Survey) reported by Melissa
Called me at least 7 times over the last few days... usually multiple times a day. Sometimes they leave a message, sometimes not. The two messages I listened to said that they were calling from Stats Canada and gave me a different 833 number to call them back at. Both were women leaving the messages, and both gave me a reference number to quote when I call back, but the number was different both times. Neither of them gave a reason for their call or any information that would make me believe who was calling me and call that number back without a purpose. I've blocked the number... if Stats Canada really needs to hear from me, they can send me something in the mail on official letterhead. And also, if it were for a survey, why can't they just send me mail with a website on which to complete the survey like they do for the census? Might be legit just from the repeated calls and everyone here with a similar story, but it just seems too fishy for me right now.

Reminder to do my Statistics Canada Survey (Survey) reported by Philip
Statistics Canada called and asked me when I will complete the "Monthly Retail Trade Survey" for my employer. They would send a link for the survey to my work email. Every month, when I complete the survey, I gave Statistics Canada my cell phone number in case if they have any questions about my responses.

Ask to speak with an adult, probably because I don't sound like one. The guy said he is from Statistics Canada, asking about Census, asked about a specific address which was my previous address. Told him that I no longer live there, and he removed my number from their file and no more questions.

Legit call from Stats Canada (Service) reported by Elle
Had a call from number above, left a voicemail. They stated their name and provided a reference number. Stated another agent would call back if I don't call them. It was at 12:30pm on a Sunday, and the number they told me to call back on, was different than on their website. Was told to call 1-833-720-2021. I called the number online (1-833-340-2021) and spoke to an agent. The call was legit, and they needed information on a specific address (where I no longer reside), so they took my number off the file for that address.
