I got 5 calls from this number within 15 minutes and there was one voicemail left to contact JCP&L at this 844 number. So I called the main contact number for First Energy as they refer to themselves and they confirmed that my account is not due and that this was, in fact, a scam call that they have had numerous complaints against. BE CAREFUL!!

Sayreville Police Department July 14, 2016 · Attention JCP&L Customers - SCAM ALERT Here is what the Sayerville, NJ Police Dept said in a FB post; Having paid my electric bill yesterday I was surprised to get a robo call from someone representing themselves as JCP&L telling my I had a past due balance. Apparently several of you have received the same call. THIS IS A SCAM. DO NOT provide them with any information. The call came from 844-434-7105. If you are not sure if you owe JCP&L any money hang up and call them at 1-800-662-3115. My Jersey Central P&L electric bill is not past due & received a call from 617-849-88xx (on caller id which is also a scam number in Massachusetts). The recording uses our name then says to call back 844-434-7105. Both numbers are verified scams. Always call the phone number on your bill or their website to be sure who you are talking to.

I just got a call from them and contacted JCP&L myself who confirmed that my payment was not due and that it was a scam call. They said that there have been a number of complaints related to the same number.

It seems First Energy's new policy is to call you the day after your bill is due. It is very annoying but totally legal. I asked them to change my billing date but they can't because it tied to when they come out to check the meter. So I told them then I will always be a few days past due because of being paid bi-monthly. I ignore them mostly now.
