They just called me from the Venmo number as well, but instead of a person it was an automated voice. They did the same thing with texting a code to my number to verify my identity, I foolishly put it in, thought it was suspicious and instantly went to Venmo to talk to someone about the incident. The gentleman I spoke with advised me that there was no sudden withdrawal pending on my account and advised me to change my password immediately. I did so and took all of my cards/banks out, changed my email, and set a pin. I don’t usually fall for these sort of things but they’ve become clever in their ways. Total scam!

This is absolutely a scam. Yes, it is the venmo number, but not actually. Calls in the US use info from the caller. So they spoof the venmo number to make it look like they are actually from venmo. Their phone is telling yours it's the venmo number, but it's absolutely not. They are sending a password reset code to you by attempting to log into your account and having you give them the 2 factor authentication code. This is why many spam calls appear to have your area code. The caller ID system is outdated and archaic. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR 2 FACTOR CODE. YOU ARE GIVING THEM ACCESS TO YOUR ACCOUNT.

is the Venmo number on their site a legit number to call if you have a problem? my friend received a call from that number and they weren't really Venmo and they took all of her money. All because she was having trouble logging into her account and needed to call for help.

After receiving and email from Venmo this morning alerting me to activity on my account, a guy with a Spanish accent called saying he was from Venmo and told me there was a charge on my account from an Ana Johnson and asked if I was aware of this attempt. I said no and he told me that he will be sending me a code to confirm my identity but when I got the code the text message said do not share the code with anymore. So I asked the guy if theres a way I could verify and secure the account online because I dont know if hes a legit caller from Venmo and he ignored me and tried to continue on with the procedure telling me he will transfer me to a secure line where I can give them the code. I hung up on him.

the same man just called me with the same situation about “Ana Johnson” venmoing herself $200. The whole say the code thing even though the text says not to state it was kind of a dead giveaway it was spam but I hope no one falls for it

Received a call from a man stating he was calling from VENMO customer service because there was some suspicious charges on my Venmo account. He sent me a code by text message and asked me to read his the code to have total access of my account so he could contact the authorities and start an investigation on the fraudulent charges. I pretended I hadn't received them while I jumped on the computer to see if this was a scam. So glad I did. Apparently Venmo will never contact you by phone!! Trust your gut.

I believed this was officially from Venmo trying to make verify a "fraudulent transaction" of $150 and wanted to be sure I made this attempt. Problem is, I contacted Venmo Support after the call and they just got back to me letting me know it was a scam. Venmo DOES NOT MAKE OUTGOING CALLS to verify. The man wanted to send me a code to my phone and to verify the code over the line with him. Thankfully the code never appeared. If it had, and had I provided him with it, it's likely he would have had access to my data and financial info. It seemed official as the guy gave me a name, company ID#, and even a Cancellation Confirmation Transaction #, but they were all fake. Please hang up immediately, take a screenshot of the call and number, and contact Venmo through email on their website. Furthermore, change you password on your Venmo Account and Email Account connected to it. (Pain in the butt, I know).

Thank yo so much for this, i was literally on the phone and wasnt sure what was going on but once i saw this i realized that was exactly what was happening with me.. he sent me this weird code that i had to confirm but after i saw this i hung up and changed all the passwords and information

The only reason I even picked up was that earlier today I had received an email from Venmo telling me that there was weird activity on my account, so I changed my password and added all the extra security measures Venmo offers. So I receive this call and the man is trying to get me to change my password, so I just kinda wasted his time as I researched the number online and then went to the Venmo website (THANKFULLY I WENT THROUGH THESE STEPS!) Directly under the Venmo website it states "Nobody at Venmo will ever contact you to request a password or verification code to your account." I left him waiting on the call for 30 minutes as I pretended to not understand why things were not working.

This actually *IS* the number for Venmo, but my call was 100% a scam. They asked for my password, knew that I had changed my password recently, and asked if my previous password was XXXXXXXXXX. I hung up and called Venmo directly, who confirmed that was NOT Venmo, and that it was a scam. Venmo also confirmed they will NEVER call you; they only send security alerts via email. NEVER EVER give anyone your password. EVER. NO legit company will ever ask for your password.

Pretended that I was being scammed and had me tell him a code from Venmo text message. He then stole $1,400 by sending money from my account to 5 different places between $200 and $398. Get this guy and send him to prison.

It is Venmo real number, AALTHOUGH it is spoofed often and used for scams. I woke up this morning to 18 missed calls from this number. I finally answered and is was a hillbilly aggressively demanding for my number. So long story short. This IS venmos real number, BUTT people fake the number and scam with it. VENMO DOES NOT DO ANYTHING PASSWORD OVER A PHONE CALL

It say it was sprint and that my account was suspended! Hang up call sprint directly from cell phone and they told me everything was fine and that they didn't call me. Scam or spoof number.
