I've received several calls from these fellows. The first time, they claimed to be from some company in India wanting to stop DDOS attacks they claimed were originating from my I. P. address. I informed them that I run PeerBlock, and if they would kindly give me the company in question's I.P. address, I would block my computer from contacting theirs ever again. They seemed terribly off put by this notion, and claimed only the software they wanted me to download from a site they would give me could solve the problem. I disagreed and bid them good day. The next three times this number called up the same fellow claimed to be representing Microsoft and that they had detected my computer had a problem. "Alright," I say, "Which one? I own several." When he could not identify the machine with the problem, I hung up on the man. The last time this number called, again with the same fellow pretending to be a Microsoft representative, I decided to humor him a little and see what they wanted me to do. He had me bring up the run box and type in the executable for the Event Viewer program. Once there he had me go to the Administrative Events under the Custom Views folder, and attempted to convince me the errors listed therein were 'critical issues' that needed to be fixed, and once again, only their downloadable program would fix them. I called him on the bollox it was, and he 'transferred' me to his manager, whom I told to cease calling my home. No idea if they have or not as my home phone has the capability to block numbers directly, and I added them to the block list then and there. So yes, peddlers of Ransomware, located out of San Diego. Not Microsoft or whomever they claim at all.
