Anyone can spoof a number. The caller immediately asked for personal information to 'verify me'. I have legitimate business with them and I am not delinquent. They refused to tell me what the matter was without me giving out PII to a cold call so I suggested if they had any legitimate concern, they should contact me via mail or email, both of which they have. I explained: your company should not be doing this. (Anyone with a college education knows what social engineering and phishing calls are, and most know that it is trivial to spoof an inbound number. If you don't know this, you should ask for a refund because your education has failed you.) You should not answer this call unless they give you a call back number that you can verify. End of story.

The caller is Nelnet. They took over a lot of the student scam ahem loan business from our dear old friend, the former United States Secretary of Education's family-owned business (yeah, look it up). Anyway the company is still experiencing growing pains, has their head up the **** of the central bank, and generally doesn't quite have a full grip on things quite yet- the people calling you, if indeed you actually get a human when they robocall, are just worker slaves too so try to be polite. :-) The call is initially a robocall. If you say nothing, the call will end in 15-30 seconds. If you say anything, you may get a human, may not (probably depends on if someone else picked up or not, the humans typically have several in their queue). Anyway I don't talk to them. They email constantly, even though I've already done the new setup they want us to do. Student loans are stupid, it's part of the decline of the west, but we signed up for it- and it is therefore a financial responsibility. So pay yer damn loans, ppl. Not for nothing both sides of the politics on this one are pretty effed up, IMHO (Not to mention the GREED in our higher education system too!). Nothing will change anytime soon though. So... I'll keep paying these student loans till I die, and maybe then they will leave me alone!!!

I got two calls close together from this number. Usually with Robo calls I put it on silent so they will hang up first and hopefully the robo call software will think it called another software, so I did this with this call. No one spoke and both times the call hung up after 10 seconds.

Information stated on this recording seemed truthful, call back narrative info matched CallerID, that said I'm on Do Not Call list so in the very least a Soliciting Robo Call from a Non-Scammer....Maybe?????

I just received a call from them. I didn’t recognize the number and the woman on the other side asked to speak to me, using my full name and all. I was very confused but I confirmed that it was me. She said was from Nelnet and that she needed to talk about my account information and started asking me to confirm my date of birth. I didn’t recognize that name and I asked what it is was and why they were calling me. She just kept saying that it was Nelnet and finally she told me to do some research and call back. I was just like “Ok?” and she hung up. Apparently Nelnet has something to do with my student loans, but student loan payments have been pushed back to May by the federal government, so currently I don’t need to pay yet and I haven’t touched anything to do with my student loans in a long while, so I have no idea why they would be calling. It was very strange overall. Like someone else before me said, my loan provider should never call me without reason and if they’re going to, they should at least tell me who they are or why they’re calling before asking for my personal information.

If your student loan was thru Great Lakes, Nelnet has taken over to my understanding. Great Lakes no longer has your loan. Might be for others as well.

I said hello and got nothing in return, it was just dead air. I do have student loans and I did get a letter and emails from NelNet concerning my student loans. Perhaps they will call back and when they do, they will actually talk to me.
