I just received a call from a lady with a heavy accent wanting to verify my recent order for a Google Play gift card. I had just placed the order, so I cautiously said yes. She asked if I was [name], and I said yes, and then she asked if I had just purchased a Google Play gift card for $xx. I said I did. I wasn't sure, but I wasn't giving out any personal information. She said thank you and that was it. But I was confused and a little concerned after reading the ratings here. So I called Amazon, and the guy I spoke with said he was going to check some things, and then he came back and said that wasn't something Amazon does, but Google might have their own process. He said it was probably legit, as long as they weren't asking for personal information.

Left a 14 second message from "Amazon.com Notification Team" requesting a confirmation/authorization of an order. This is a scam. Amazon does not call. They send emails. If you call the number back, it redirects you to the real Amazon customer service. That is why this looks legit.

They have been calling me non stop every day this week and they said they are calling from Amazon. I have purchased one item from Amazon months ago and nothing else. This month, they charged my mastercard $1000 after I answered their call. They knew the last 4 digits of my card so i had it cancelled.  Do not answer or return their call. BEWARE!!!

Caller with Indian accent wants to "verify" Amazon purchase. (Scam call) reported by


Caller quotes the price of an item recently purchased on Amazon, and then asks leading questions about credit card. I did not confirm purchase. Instead, I called Amazon directly from the help number on their website. Amazon says it does not make such "verification" calls. Communication with the customer, when necessary, is made through website, then email, then a call you place to them. This call is a phishing scam, angling for info about your identity.

I received a call from this number, answered and was told by a man with a heavy accent that he was calling to verify a $500+ order on my credit card. He said a coworker of mine had made the order on their account with my credit card and was calling to get my approval on the order. I declined to speak with him. When asking for his name and phone number to reach him at, he game me "John" and no number to call back before abruptly hanging up. According to this twitter thread with Amazon Customer service, it's been happening for years and they've verified it's not an Amazon account.
