I didn't answer this call directly, but I did call 888 280-4331 back. This appears to be a case of caller ID spoofing. The ID name for the originator was V62215565302771, while the return number was listed as 888 280-4331 (a real number for Amazon Customer Service). The robot message said something about Amazon (I didn't hear all of it), and then, "if you want to speak to a customer representative, press 1." I've seen the V622... caller name before, and always thought it was telemarketing, but this time, when I heard "Amazon," I thought maybe it was about a package that hadn't arrived. So I called 888 280-4331 back, which answered "this is Amazon." When I got connected to customer service at that number, they had no record of a call to me. She asked for my name, e-address, and mailing address, which I gave her. I was about to say good-bye, then I remembered I had a few questions about several Amazon orders. Each time I gave her the last 4 digits of the order she knew exactly what it was, when it had been ordered, etc. She helped me resolve each issue. She didn't ask for any other information. But after I hung up, I got worried about who I'd really been talking to. So I requested Amazon chat help and got into a very frustrating exchange with a representative who kept sending me canned messages about getting SPAM to email. When she finally read my messages and saw the phone number in question, she said, "Oh, that's a verified Amazon customer service number. No worries." So, I don't know what the story is. It seems like my return call was to a legit number. But the ID name for the caller, V62215565302771, is a separate entity. Their robot message ended with "to speaker to a customer respresentative, press 1"--so I'm guessing if you "Press 1", you get connected to their scammer. Meanwhile the Caller ID display shows the real Amazon customer service number as the originating number. Wiki has many more gory details about Caller ID spoofing.

Received call from 888 280-4331 it was a robot saying they were Amazon and that a charge for iPhone in amount $600 being charged to Amazon account and if you didn't place order stay on line and press 1 to talk to representative. I then hung up.... This is 2nd time I have received this exact call.

I had exactly the same call. I imm called Amazon and they said there were no pending orders. They said it was a scam spoof call. The phone number is used is the Amazon customer service number

Even though I didn't pick up, caller left a message (mid-sentence since he didn't wait for my phone to start recording) that a card "attached with my Amazon account" (which I don't have) had recently been charged for an IPhone purchase so they put a hold on the purchase. Then the caller told (my answering machine) to press 1 to talk with a fraud representative.

Got a call claiming I had a fraudulent charge on my amazon account and I needed to get out through to customer service to give them my info so they could reverse the charges. I don’t have an amazon account and the lady argued with me that it was customer service with amazon and they needed my info. I told her several times to remove me from their call list before hanging up.

verify a purchase on amazon (Unsolicited call) reported by


Received phone call from this number which showed up on caller ID as from amazon. Pre recorded message stated that they wanted to verify a $700 purchase on amazon and to stay on the line for further information. I stayed on the line but the call was disconnected. I looked up phone online and it was listed as a customer service number from amazon (Also checked online on my amazon account and there was no such purchase pending). Spoke with someone at amazon customer service and they wanted to check my account if there was such a call made. I declined and ended call with amazon. This is an obvious scam person using amazon customer service number on caller ID in order to come across legitimately. DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION!!!

Woman called stating she was "with Amazon" and inquiring if someone(in Dayton Ohio not even my state) bought an iPhone from Amazon for $900.00. Started badgering for further information, how many people use this account etc. Asked who are you anyway? Amazon. Shouldn't the visa people be calling me about this? Hung up. What annoying ****. Caller ID identified the call as coming from Amazon Customer Service. Nothing appears on my amazon or visa account.

I got the same call referencing an Iphone purchase by someone in Dayton Ohio, going to someplace in PA. She knew my name, asked if I made the purchase, gave anyone my login information or knew anyone in those locations and then asked if I want to continue with the purchase or cancel it. Never asked for login information and told me to change the security settings on my account and asked if I knew how to do it. She then hung up. I have had the 2 factor authentication on already and have no evidence that any unauthorized purchases were made in my account. What are they getting from these calls if they dont ask for login or credit card info?
